ABOUT KPAC

Opening wide the doors of opportunity:
KPAC opens doors and provides the space in which musicians of all ages and levels of accomplishment can develop their talent, hone their skills, and make beautiful music in central Maine.  A healthy cultural environment in a community is as much an asset as good schools, clean air, and safe streets and likewise is a boost toward a healthy business environment.

Some background:
Formed shortly after World War I as the Augusta Symphony Orchestra, the organization has grown to include five performing groups.  A Jazz Band, Chorus, Wind Ensemble, and Chamber Singers have been added to the Orchestra to become the Kennebec Performing Arts Company. (More recently the organizational structure has been changed and the orchestra incorporated into a separate entity.) The new name was chosen to better represent the breadth of musical styles performed as well as the broader area that we serve.  KPAC boasts 180  musicians   drawn from all ages and walks of life. We have members who are doctors, educators, retirees, banking and insurance officers as well as homemakers and students.

How we operate
KPAC is a non-profit organization dependent upon revenue derived from memberships, sponsorships, ticket sales, and grants from businesses and individuals.  Our operating budget must provide salaries for our conductors, music licensing, rental of rehearsal and concert space, advertising, and miscellaneous expenses.

Focus on young musicians
We have had a recent influx of enthusiastic and talented young musicians into all of our performing groups.

Programming
We have recently presented a variety of concerts in several communities including Augusta, Winthrop, and Skowhegan.

Our needs:
If you are an instrumental musician or a singer and would like to participate in one or more of our musical groups, we welcome you to join us.
If you can help with financial support, you can be sure your contribution will have an impact on the quality of life of our community.

Our goal is to reach out, entertain, educate, and enrich our community by developing new audiences and preserving the rich tradition of music in central Maine for our  future and  for generations to come.
